Background
- Client provides an online data collection system for use by patients and providers that are scheduled for an operation or medical procedure in the near future.
- Main pain areas were to create a secure, user-friendly portal with little to no learning curve making the overall preoperative experience as efficient and convenient as possible for both patient and provider. In addition, there needed to be a multi layered user access system for the administrator to grant specific user rights. The overall application must adhere to current HIPAA standards and protocols.
Scope
- Build from the ground up a database website with flexible, modular architecture that is SEO friendly.
- Application to contain a series of questions related to the patient’s health, family history, previous and current diagnosis, medications and demographics.
- Provide the ability to control user access rights to the site, run specific reports, and search patient directory.
Technology
- Utilized PHP/MYSQL on Linux with Apache.
- MVC framework designed to provide better separation of different layers.
- Fully object oriented code with PHP5.
Solution
- 100% HIPAA compliant portal with 14 data entry screens for patients containing more than 200 questions and sub-questions and with conditional branching.
- Created a more user friendly and flexible system making it easier to for patients to enter their information thereby saving times of hospital staff.
- Automated generation of PDF forms from the data entered by patients.
- Patient database management and modification, access to information anytime anywhere.
